As we start the new year of 2011, I wish to congratulate the Registrar, members of Council, members of the various Committees of Council and all staff of the Council in the Member States for their steadfast dedication to meeting the vision of WAEC, i.e. ‘To be a world class examining body adding value to the educational goals of its numerous stakeholders.’
I wish to acknowledge especially the support of Madam Registrar and the Vice Chairman, Hon. (Dr) Mator Kpangbai, who is also the Chief Government Nominee of the Republic of Liberia and the other Chief Government Nominees from Nigeria, Alhaji G Y Bello; Ghana, Ms Benedicta Biney; Sierra Leone, Mr Abdul Bayoh and The Gambia, Mrs Fatou Njie.
The meetings of the various Committees of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Liberia were held in Monrovia from Monday, 22nd to Friday, 26th November 2010. The Committees of Council that met during the period included the Liberia Aptitude Tests and Examinations Committee, the Liberia Administrative and Finance Committee and the Liberia National Committee, which is the highest decision-making organ of the Council in Liberia. The members of the Council’s Committees include Government nominees, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Universities, National Association of Liberia School Principals, National Teachers Association of Liberia, and other interests. The statutory Chairman of the Committees is the Deputy Minister for Instruction who is also the Chief Government Nominee of Liberia on Council, Honourable (Dr.) Mator M. F. Kpangbai.
The meetings of various Committees of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), The Gambia were held in Banjul from Monday, 1st to Friday, 5th November 2010. The Committees that met during the period included the Gambia Aptitude Tests and Examinations Committee, the Gambia Appointments Committee, the Gambia Administrative and Finance Committee and the Gambia National Committee, which is the highest decision-making organ of the Council in The Gambia. The members of the Committees included Government Nominees, representatives of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Universities, Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, and other interests.
The meetings of various Committees of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Sierra Leone were held in Freetown from Tuesday, October 26 to Friday, October 29, 2010. The Committees that met during the period included the Sierra Leone Aptitude Tests and Examinations Committee (SLATEC), Sierra Leone Administrative and Finance Committee (SLAF) and the Sierra Leone National Committee (SLNC) which is the highest decision-making organ of the Council in Sierra Leone. The Council’s Committees are made up of Government nominees as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Universities, Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (CPSS) and other interests.

The Council, a sub-regional organization responsible for the conduct of a variety of examinations in English-Speaking West Africa, has a vacancy for an Officer to head its Training and Human Resource Development Unit within the HRM Department. Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified nationals of the member countries, to fill the position.
The 68th Meeting of the International Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointments Committee (IFAEAC) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was held on Thursday and Friday, April 22 and 23, 2010 in Accra, Ghana.
