Organisational Structure

Administrative Structure

The Chief Executive is the Registrar whose office is at the WAEC Headquarters, Accra, Ghana. Each member country has a National Office which is headed by a Head of National Office, who oversees the activities of the Council in that country, while the Registrar coordinates the five National Offices.

In addition, the Registrar supervises the Head of Research Section; the Director, Human Resource Management; the Director of Finance; the Director of Audit; the Director of Administration as well as the Head of WAEC International Office, Lagos.

The Council’s functions in each member country are carried out through two-line divisions: the Test Development Division and the Test Administration Division. While the Test Development Division produces the syllabuses and tests to be taken, the Test Administration Division conducts the tests and issues results and certificates.

In achieving their goals, the two divisions are actively supported by the Administration Division, the Information & Communications Technology Division, and the Finance Division. The Heads of these five divisions report to the Head of National Office.

Structure of the Council

Part of the Council’s strength is its well-developed committee structure. WAEC’s committees, and Council itself, are made up of some of the best men and women in the various fields of human endeavour in the sub-region, particularly in education.

There are about seventy committees working on various aspects of the Council’s activities at the local and international levels. These are in addition to the over 100 subject panels that operate from time to time to review developments in the different subject examinations. All these ensure that the operations of the Council are meticulously performed and they make the Council an authority on educational issues.
